The Colbys is an American prime time soap opera which aired on ABC from 1985 to 1987. The Aaron Spelling-produced series was a spin-off of Dynasty, which had been ranked no.1 for the 1984-1985 U.S. television season.

Intended to surpass its predecessor in opulence, the series' producers were handed an immensely high budget for the era.

Although much hyped in 1985 and the winner of a 1986 People's Choice Award for New TV Dramatic Program, The show was ultimately a ratings disappointment, in part due to competition with NBC's Cheers which was part of their hit comedy line-up which ruled the ratings on Thursday nights.

Despite finishing a disappointing 35th place for the year, the series was still renewed for a second season.

The second season fared even worse and finished a dismal 76th for the year prompting the network to cancel the show.
